VAKA® – the key to increased security for Prunus housing cooperative

The Prunus housing cooperative needed to improve security. The neighbouring cooperative had just switched to an access control system with an intercom and recommended our access control system VAKA®, which they were very pleased with. The chairman of Prunus therefore contacted the installation company Bergs Lås for more information.

The Prunus housing cooperative is located in Gustavsberg in eastern Stockholm, in a historic area that features an old porcelain factory. The cooperative’s previous solution with a code lock had led to unauthorised individuals gaining access to the properties. An analysis by Bergs Lås showed that VAKA® was the optimal solution for the cooperative, as their three properties and car park already had fibre installed, which would make installation quick and easy. They could use the fibre network and existing cables to each door, which minimised the need for additional cabling. The solution was very cost-effective for the cooperative.

“With a unified system for the three properties, the car park and several intercoms, only one intercom subscription is needed – which is very reasonably priced through Axema,” says Alex Gavrilovic from Bergs Lås. For the Prunus housing cooperative, the result was low overall costs for installation and operation.

Quick installation with VAKA®

The Prunus housing cooperative now has VAKA® intercoms at all main entrances. The main gates and car park entrance are opened with a personal, copy-protected access card, providing perimeter protection for all three properties. All doors are equipped with automation that can be adjusted to keep the door open longer if needed – for example, for people with disabilities. If you happen to forget your access tag, you can open the door with your mobile. The cooperative has also chosen to install wireless digital locks from SimonsVoss for access to the recycling cabin and for internal doors from each stairwell to the communal car park. These provide a separate, battery-operated locking bolt that can be integrated with the VAKA® system, allowing quick installation without significant alterations to the door environment. The battery lasts for up to 150,000 openings per battery set, which corresponds to approximately five years of operation under normal use.

Simple management of access rights

Selected individuals on the Prunus board are administrators for the access cards in the keyless entry system. They can easily assign and revoke access to different areas remotely using VAKA®. Service staff can receive temporary passes. All access is tracked, and if an access tag goes missing, it can be deactivated and a new one can usually be programmed within 24 hours. This makes admin very easy for the cooperative’s administrators. Overall, this provides the Prunus housing cooperative with the increased security they needed.

Easy to add on functionality

Thanks to VAKA®, the cooperative will in the future be able to use the same scalable system for booking the laundry room, post boxes, information boards, alarm connections and more.

“The advantage of Axema is that you can start with perimeter protection, evaluate the system and later easily build on it to control various functions and access to the building,” explains installer Dennis Bergendahl.

The Prunus housing cooperative is considering expanding the system to cover storerooms, a boardroom, a pram store and a bicycle store.
