VAKA® installed in Viscaria copper mine in Kiruna
Together with the installation company Din Service i Kiruna AB, we have won the contract to supply the VAKA® access control system to the Viscaria copper mine in Kiruna in northern Sweden. The project will run for several years, and is our biggest assignment yet.
The copper mine in Kiruna was closed down in the late 1990s, but has now been reopened by the company Viscaria. In order to restart operations, the old mine galleries had to be pumped empty of water, which then had to be cleaned in Viscaria’s new purification plant – and this is one of the locations where our readers are to be installed.
“We are both proud and delighted to be involved in supplying to a project of this calibre,” beams our Sales and Export Manager Bengt Antonelius. “Although Axema is well known for its apartment-block security systems, VAKA® is also ideal for heavy-industry applications. Our vandal-proof readers are designed for the Arctic climate and work perfectly in the tough environment found up here in the north.”
Robust, user-friendly system
VAKA® readers have now been installed at the entry gates on the approach roads to the site. Din Service i Kiruna AB is integrating the VAKA® system with the Autosober sobriety check system to further increase safety and security on site.
“VAKA® is really suitable for this location, because it’s so easy to integrate with other systems,” reports Fredrik Lindberg, installer at Din Service i Kiruna AB. “It’s user-friendly, and it’s easy to set up schedules and to add access rights. We’ve been installing VAKA® for several years, including at Kebnekaise and Riksgränsen, and it’s always worked perfectly in cold and inclement weather.”
This is an extensive project, involving hundreds of doors, switchgear, mineral processing plants, water purification plants, fire stations, staff accommodation, offices and container locks. The combination of our readers and SimonsVoss offline locks ensures a high level of security through a flexible and cost-effective solution.
